Not really a ground cover, but one of the most magnificent perennials available today. During spring before much else wakes up, 'Globemaster' sends up imposing shiny green straplike foliage. In short order, these are followed by stout upright stems, each topped with a glossy pointed flower bud soon to become massive 10 inch diameter globose heads of lovely-lilac pink flowers. Visible from a hundred feet away, these are surefire conversation starters, and persist several weeks before fading to long-lasting silvery starbursts of spiky seed heads before the whole plant goes to sleep for the summer months. Great companions include Heucheras, Hostas, Polemonium, Sedums, Calamagrostis.
